To live more fully.
Today I remember Michael Fleming. He was full of grace, courage, joy and maturity.
In my time with him, I was taught that every person is of value, every day is new, and if you love things you make time for them:
I remember when he took a 4 hour bus ride to downtown Toronto just to see me sing at the (now-closed) Savannah Room. It was my first show in a while.
I remember how Mike made us stay...
First TV appearance where I am playing myself!
Look for me on RogersTV tomorrow singing some songs and playing some piano and saying some things in between!
But what song should I sing?
It’s a dilemma.

Shad reviews Kanye/Jay-Z show. Check this out →
I love the idea of musicians reviewing other musicians. Not only is Shad’s review intelligent and witty, it has insights that a plain old journalist would miss.
Plus, I think the average person trusts insights like this more because Shad understands what its like to record and album- and can consider a live performance like this in a refreshing way.
Not bad, National Post.

“12-year-old Drake fan finds rapping eases stuttering.” They should just let this guy rap all the time if he wants to. This makes me smile.

If you missed it...
Here’s a recap of my show last Wednesday:
The evening was inspiring.
I was apprehensive because there wasn’t a sound person, but I thought things ended up sounding good. It was fun to try a new sort of reverb; the result was like being in a giant cavern with lightning bugs thousands of feet above my head. Dreamy. Cool to use a condenser mic that picks up the subleties, too....

– Ani DiFranco (via grrrlstudies)
I think Ani and I are likely very different people, but I respect the way she values lyrics and doesn’t waste them (see this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozmEVdXcmPk for one of my favorites). And I think this quote holds an interesting point that I need...

Not actually a big deal but still.
Just had to spend my “new glorious Nord keyboard fund” on bills. Sighhh.

Hi everyone!
I need your help.

Open mic
I played the Free Times open mic last night.
It was fun!
I never feel too great about my performances there (piano is really low and sort of half off the stage) but the community is wonderful. I’ll tell you more soon.
Until then, enjoy this photo of my emotional days as a 14 year old.
Yes, those are stars painted on my face with a marker. They were supposed to look like tears but I was...
Playing at The Mod Club in the New Year!
I don’t usually play venues that accommodate more than 50 people, but this just came up… it will be fun to see all of you in one place.
Details to come.
Rejection is good for the soul, perhaps.
This week -with some encouraging from Thom to take risks, reach for the stars and dream big- I sent invitations to four of my favourite Canadian folk/alt-pop musicians to play an upcoming show with me.
Obviously I emphasized the fact that they would be headlining, I was a big fan, much respect, all of those important things. Tried to make the messages concise, well-worded, clear.
Two responded...
Therapy
So today I started therapy/counselling.
Oh my goodness! One should never share such personal things on one’s blog! How embarrassing!
Oh shut up, I don’t care.
Because, I am finally going to believe that God is love.
I am so full of hope- I think these sessions are going to help me understand the fear and guilt that I have experienced my whole life in much deeper ways; and in that,...
Woohoo!
Two upcoming things I’ll be singing at:
- Saturday November 26, “The Big Picture” fundraiser for the amazing Special Needs program at Ontario Pioneer Camp.
- Wednesday, December 7th, at the Smiling Buddha in the evening.
More details to come regarding both shows.

Style, to speak of
I have a street style/expression/art blog now too. Because some of the stuff I want to share doesn’t fit on here.
So far there are just some boys on it.

– Rachel Edidin talks about portraying female superhero characters at Comic Alliance (viagrrrlstudies)
We see women playing these roles in comics, yes, but everywhere else too; movies, literature, real life. As I read this I wonder when I take on these roles myself- when I subconsciously channel the...
Obama
Obama said “Bedroom slippers” a few days ago, so my Youtube music video with a lyric about bedroom slippers got 1000 more hits!
Thank you Obama.
Can I send you a lyric list and we can figure some sort of arrangement?
